A caution about comparisons. I heard a story once
of a guy who cut his lawn on a Saturday. Looked pretty good. Went inside,
turned on the TV, and it was some home improvement show. Within 20 minutes he
was totally dissatisfied with his house, his deck, his income, and his
furniture.
People in general, and TV/media etc in particular, present just their strong
point. So what happens, and you don't even know it, is that you feel expected
to match everybody's strong suit.
So you get to feel that you are supposed to have a high income like the unhappy
workaholic, but the cozy relationship with your kids like the lady who's up to
her ears in credit cards, and the neat tidy house like the lady who has
alienated her entire family with her neat-freak behavior, and all the head
knowledge of the presumptuous, stuck-up eggheads, and the humble nature of the
70 year-old saint who has suffered greatly, and so on.
It's not easy to learn to be yourself, and then to make the most that you
possibly can of that.
