The "Chris Petersons" and "Andrew Petersons" at Knollwood Sept 1944. Time for a little bio of Andrew. He was born in 1900. His dad came over in 1895 or so. His mother was Swedish. Scarlet fever hit in 1905 and it was a disaster. Andrew's older sister died, along with their mother. Andrew didn't even remember her name. After grandpa Andrew were twin boys, but one had died at birth. The other twin was Chris, in these pictures. Then, the youngest was Clara. The kids got shuffled around from home to home. When grandpa was 14 he was "put out to pasture", that is, hired away to a family named Knudsen. They gave him stability and taught him about Christ. He said those were the best years of his life. Chris's wife, in the pictures, is Hilda. Looks like they had four kids. That's Martha up on the guy's shoulders. Kristen recalls that Clara lived in Southern Connecticut and had a son named Clarence, who had two daughters. One of Clara's grand-daughters, named Marsha Hug, told Susan she had heard from Chris's granddaughter Tricia. Tricia sent her a FIRST EVER picture of Andrew as a child:
Andrew, Clara and Chris, guessed by Marcia to be taken about 1914. I'm thinking a bit earlier than that because Grandpa was 14 when he left, and that would have been in 1914. Besides, Clara was about 3 years younger and she looks 8 or 9, doesn't she? That would place it around 1911 or 1912.
Jane and Dorothy: Formals, Sept. 5 1944 and leaving for Wheaton, Sept 6 1944.
Left two: Wheaton Freshman Days, October 1944. "Punishments". Jane and Esther Lauer in front of North Hall, and Jane in front of Hiatt. Right. Penny and Pete, October 1944. The back of the snapshot confirms that "Pete" is Dorothy; must have been a nickname.
Homecoming, October 1944. Left, Stupe being decorated by Frosh. The Stupe won the prize. Center: Tug-of-war between Frosh and Sophs. Won by Frosh. Right: Pushball Contest, same contestants, same winner. Looks like total Freshman domination.
Still Homecoming. Left: Alumni Gym, decorated by Sophs. Center: Hiatt (January 45). I guess this was Jane's dorm. Right: Blanchard's tower, decorated (?) by seniors
Left: Chapel, decorated for Homecoming by Juniors. Center: December '44, in front of North Hall. Just so you know: Jeanne Alexander, Jeane Witthoff, Jane Peterson, Ruth Jean Wilson, Vera Gitlin. Right: Christmas party, December 9 1944. I'm not typing all the names in! But Jane is not in the picture, and the old lady is Mrs. Dibbrell.
"Bedtime Gals", December 1944. Left: Jane and "Mich", Michiko Tsuchiyama. Mich may have had an awkward time! It was during WWII. Mom can't remember much about her. Right: Penny and Dorothy.
