Left: Dorothy's high school graduation, June 10 1943. Mom tells me she was the valedictorian. Center and right: Knollwood Beach in Old Saybrook, CT. Center is Evelyn and Martha, July 10 1943. Right is Jane, of course, July 11. Look at that curly hair!

Dorothy's birthday party out at Aunt Ruth's, July 18, 1943. And no, there aren't any pictures of Dorothy! Left: Grandpa Andy and Grandma Marie. Center, Uncle Carl Christensen. Carl and Grandma Marie were the only surviving Christensens. I've said elsewhere that Carl and Ruth could not have children. Right: Aunt Ruth (with carrots). I think she is prettier here than in her wedding photo! I had an email from Mom that I can't find now saying that Grandpa seemed jealous of Marie's relationship with Carl and so it was strained. She remembered Marie crying about it. Grandpa was a hard man. I did meet Carl in 1964 but I don't recall Ruth. She passed away in 1962 at age 59. I don't know the cause.

Back at Knollwood Beach, July 31 1943. Left: Mother. Center, right: Dorothy and Jane, "Bathing Beauties". Wolf whistles would not be out of the question, here.

Hilltop Bible Conference, Cromwell CT, August 7-15 1943. Left "Augie" Ramiland, Jane, Edie Larsen, Eddie Oleson. Center: Rather a nice shot in the cornfield. Too bad the print is damaged right around her face. Right: Augie and Jane.

Knollwood Beach again, August 29 1943. I guess with a bunch of friends, as I recognize the names Mosher and Goetz. For some reason I think Goetzes were Peterson's next door neighbors to the West (uphill)? Left: "The Whole Gang": Bill Mosher, Al Goetz, Lorenz Goetz, Andy Peterson, Marie Peterson, Addie Tychsen, Evelyn Tychsen (who was a good friend of Martha's all her life). Dorothy Peterson in back. Right: "Our Abode", Jarvis Road, Knollwood Beach. They owned this house for 2 or 3 years. John and Addie Tychsen had one on the same block, closer to the beach. They used theirs a lot and eventually moved there. Petersons didn't use theirs much and eventually sold it. Grandpa worked Saturdays and Grandma didn't drive, so they didn't get down there very much. Love the car! Mom says they saved their gas rationing stamps so that they were able to get down there.

Knollwood Beach again, September 26, 1943. Sorry for the fuzzy exposures. I sharpened them the best I could. Left: Jane, of course. Center: the camera wasn't pointed right. "Addie, Evelyn, Aunt Ruth, Martha and Mother who doesn't show." This is from right to left, so you get half of Martha! Right: John Tychsen, Mr. Mochau, Daddy (Grandpa Peterson) and Uncle Carl (Christensen). They were back at Knollwood October 14!

October 10, 1943. Martha, Grandma Marie, Jane at 111 Coleman Road. Martha is 11; Jane, 16

Left: Dorothy, undated. Center: Looks like a senior picture maybe. November 1, 1943. Right: This is a scan of a picture of a picture, but it sure is a beautiful one. November 13, 1943

Since they owned the Knollwood house, I threw in some more pictures of it. This is 3 of the four sides and if you study hard enough you can figure out how they relate to each other. October 14, 1943.
